Patricia Gurgel Segrillo works primarily with fine silver, which is softer, warranting the weaving techniques evolved throughout 25 years of the jeweller-making. No weave is the same –this overtly hand-made characteristic never ceases to attract her.
Her interests lie on figurative explorations on womanhood, cultural identity, femininity, self-sufficiency and empowerment. The ‘impossible beauty’ which dominates the hearts and minds of our consumer society is challenged in a whimsical, elfish, puckish way.
The bizarre and the idiosyncratic, the beautiful and harmonious are present in every day life- Patricia strives to uncover them in an attempt to inspire and prompt reflection on our communality as one human race.
